I’ve written about Trafigura before. Now they’re at it again, apparently – it’s reported that the BBC has pulled from its website Liz McKean’s original report about the dumping of toxic waste in Ivory Coast in 2006. I think there should be an emergency debate in Parliament about this. Although the case is sub judice, the Speaker always has a discretion to allow debate and questions on matters of national importance. Which this is, especially given the history.
Privacy international have published a survey of the “effects of new counter-terrorism laws on media and free expression rights in European countries”.
It is a report about the extension of laws which impact on human rights and freedom from interception of communications, through freedom of expression to photography in the street.
John Major has published a seminal article in the Times yesterday in advance of the “42-day detention without trial” vote.
