The Strange Affair of the On/Off Comments on Nick Robinson's Newslog

The Strange Affair of the On/Off Comments on Nick Robinson’s Newslog

q-photo-nick-robinson-bbc-newslogI probably missed this, but I can’t find a reference.

Why does Nick Robinson’s Newslog never have any comments in the first half of the month?

This applies to April, May, June and July this year.

Nick’s posts in the second half of each month get hundreds of comments, but none at all in the first half of the month.

What is going on?

Let’s Do The Time Warp Again!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is to be remade, without the blessing of its creator, Richard O’Brien.

Remaking a cult classic like this is always risky. Even more so considering the quality of the original. In the end, this remake will either be bloody brilliant or absolutely abysmal.

My Wordpress Dashboard has a Google Pagerank of 4

My Wordpress Dashboard has a Google Pagerank of 4

This is from my cabinet of search engine curiosities.

Google Pagerank is a measure of the “importance” of each page, but Google never gets to see my Wordpress Dashboard, and yet has given it a value.

The Google Toolbar is not the most reliable tool, but I can only see 2 possibilities here:

  • That the Pagerank comes from links in to the Dashboard page - there is a “login” link on every page of the mattwardman.com website.
  • That some of the contributors to the blog as well as me - there are about a dozen people who can post - may be using the Google toolbar, which is taken into account in some way.

Having said that, I will be applying a nofollow link to the “login” link very quickly - since Pagerank on the Dashboard is likely to be reducing that of all the pages that link to it.

Mansfield Girl - Becky Adlington - wins Swimming Gold Medal in Beijing Olympics

Today has been a blogging about blogging day, which needs to be done but is a bit dry.

So it’s good to have a local news story.

The UK’s first female swimming Olympic Gold Medallist for half a century comes from just down the road from “Wardman Towers” - Mansfield in Nottinghamshire.

Mansfield has an Independent Mayor - Tony Eggington, who is now in his second term, so expect some Civic Propaganda when Becky Adlington returns.

I told you that the Midlands are the Centre of the Universe.

There is more information and the BBC interview here.
