Via Iain Dale this morning, an essay from Andrew Sullivan entitled “Why I blog“.
It’s a long essay - around 4000 words - but worth following to the end. This quotes are from the last page, and throws some light on why attempts to prevent links to the opposition are futile: the result is that you will end-up vanishing down your owndrain.
Off topic, spotted in passing, but irresistable. This is the watch collection of one of the moderators at www.timezone.com.

This picture is around 450 Seiko Watches. There are many more photos and the story is here.
From the BBC:
The watchdog conducting an inquiry into local authorities’ decisions to invest in Icelandic banks has admitted it has also got £10m tied up in the country.
The Audit Commission’s job is to ensure that £180bn of public sector spending provides “value for taxpayers”.
It said it deposited £5m in Landsbanki in April this year - and a further £5m in July in Iceland’s Heritable Bank.
The commission said the deposits were in “full compliance” with their guidelines “on prudent investment”.
I make no comment, except that it should guarantee the quality of the report while running the risk that it may be too mild.
One of my interests (and aims of the blog) is to encourage participation in politics as widely as possible. At least two of the three main parties have been talking about training, including media training, for younger members. The Liberal Democrats are talking about why their Leadership Academy should train everyone as they are all potential leaders.
Meanwhile, the Young Britons’ Foundation ran a training day at the Conservative Party Conference for young activists. Mike Rouse has kindly written an account for the Wardman Wire.
News has reached me that one of our esteemed contributors, Sadie of The Tavern, has reached the ripe old age of 29 this morning. So, here is a Birthday Cartoon from Indexed in celebration.

For a little longer we continue to have about 6 contributors under 30.
I also have it on good authority that she starts wearing purple next year. Or perhaps it was last year.
