Nick Winterton: the full Radio 5 interview: Oh dear
Nick Winterton, MP for Macclesfield, was on Radio 5 (and in Total Politics) yesterday opining that he should always be allowed to travel First Class on the train because MPs are entitled to do things like that, making a number of assertions including the false one that Local Councillors always travel First Class.
The BBC have been running a short 4 minute segment here, but I thought that the whole interview was worth archiving.

Wonderful stuff. To me he comes across as Captain Mainwaring pretending to be the Irish RM, and not quite making it.

This interview is shocking (The BBC radio interview). He keeps ranting ‘what has changed?’ yet seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that what has changed is the general public are now fully aware we have a house full of elected MP’s who cannot be trusted with public money. After listening to this I wonder if all MP’s should be made to undertake psych testing before they are allowed to represent anyone.
Notice how he fluffs up when talking about military personnel, I was in the Royal Navy for over a decade and in that time was never sent anywhere first class, they didn’t give me 41K to do up my home either (I’ll have to ask my wife, but I’m pretty sure she didn’t get 41K either). If I had ever been stupid enough to over claim on my expenses then, I would have spent time in a cell. I honestly think that fate should await some of our ‘honorable’ members.
Listening to him made me sick, he actually claims not to be out of touch, unbelievable.
