Ann Widdecombe finds her calling – Garbo
Ann Widdecombe has thrown her hat into the ring for Speaker of the House. Good on her!
I hope she wins; she is made for this role and will certainly be a stickler for the rules and bring back some credibility to the role. You wouldn’t want to be the backbencher who takes the full force of her wrath! And I also think she is the best qualified of all the candidates to clean up some of the mess that has been done by the expenses scandal. She is made for this role.
A message to all MPs: Vote Widdecombe!

Looks like we’ve all got Widdecombe fever this morning. Wonder if she could bring any of the HIGNFY procedures into the House:

You’re right Garbo, Widdecombe is the perfect Speaker. And as she is standing down, she can get the reform process going and do much to clear the decks for a fresh start.

Indeed, I don’t think that her standing down is too big a deal. It looks like we will have another 11 months (perhaps even a June election) which is plenty of time to steady the ship and then everything can start afresh in the new Parliament.
She’d be brilliant – can visualise her while I type. She’d certainly put the incompetents in their places. Can’t wait!
She won’t get it of course, it will definitely go to a male.
