USA Election 2008 “Live Blog” Roundup of Independent Blogs
A number of blogs Live Blogged developments during US Election night, some using the Cover it Live chatroom application.
One of the advantages of Cover it Live is that you can embed it anywhere – so I thought I’d put them all in one post for posterity.
I have also listed traditional Live Blogs that I know of at the top. If you are aware of any more, please drop a note in the comments and I will add them.
Surely there has to be more to live blogging than embedded chatrooms? How can we use video, for example?
Traditional Live Blogs
Cover It Live Live Blogs
1. Lib Dem Voice Live Blog
This was hosted here. Affable. A coffee shop.
2. Iain Dale’s Diary Live Blog
Hosted here. Busy and newsy.
Liberal Conspiracy and Slugger O Toole after the jump.
3. Liberal Conspiracy Live Blog
Hosted here. Chatty. A pub. I thought it successful, but MatGB was not impressed.
4. Slugger O Toole Live Blog
Hosted here. Slightly problematical and Cover it Live abandoned early.
The feel I got was that Cover it Live is perhaps not good for extended coverage, while you are planning to do other postings, as it either acts as a “roadblock” on the blog – or scrolls down the page out of sight. Answers may be to have it in a wide sidebar, a separate page or as a “sticky” (stays at the top) post.
Mick tried to keep analysis in the comments separate from reporting in the Live Blog, which meant that people had to keep reloading the page – which would restart the entire Live Blog each time.
They could be separated, but it would be better to use something like a Shoutbox, which does not require page reloads.
Another option would be to use two CoveritLive “live blogs” side by side.
Wrapping Up
