Today has been a blogging about blogging day, which needs to be done but is a bit dry.
So it’s good to have a local news story.
The UK’s first female swimming Olympic Gold Medallist for half a century comes from just down the road from “Wardman Towers” - Mansfield in Nottinghamshire.

Mansfield has an Independent Mayor - Tony Eggington, who is now in his second term, so expect some Civic Propaganda when Becky Adlington returns.
I told you that the Midlands are the Centre of the Universe.
There is more information and the BBC interview here.

Our Congratulations to 19 year old Rebecca Adlington of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. She is our Olympic champion for the first time in 48 years for a British women to win a gold. This medal is the very first for swimming since 1960.
Rebecca Adlington best friend Jo Jackson won bronze as the Britons pulled off this major shock in the 400m freestyle with American Katie Hoff edged into silver by seven-hundredths of a second and Italian world recordholder Federica Pellegrini finishing fifth. This has been a very special moment for Rebecca Adlington and for Briton singing out loud God save our Queen when she stood on the podium with the gold medal round her neck and sang the British national anthem with joy in her face.
All the best

Cheers for the comment Laurence.

Newsflash: The Olympic Swimming Pool was evacuated earlier today when reports came in of a shark being seen in the water.
Investigation into the incident revealed that the cause of the scare was Rebecca Adlington doing the backstroke.
