How Tight? Very.

magnifying-glassThe vote over 42 days is said to be “very tight“. It may end up that you need a magnifying glass to see the difference between them.

But in the end it is going to come down to a very simple choice for Labour MPs:

Option A: Vote for the motion and try and bolster up a failing and faltering Labour government,

Option B: Vote against the motion and try and preserve the freedom and liberties that are this countries heritage, and the very foundation of democracy,

Option C: Run and hide and abstain from voting altogether. Like cowards.

It’s up to Labour MPs to make their choice, as both the Conservatives and Lib Dems - and “30 or so” Labour MPs - have declared that they will not be voting for this. They can vote for the government and against the people, or for the people and against the government. Or be a coward and not make any choice at all.

Somehow, I’m leaning towards option C as the most likely for many of them…

The problem with polls about this sort of thing is that as soon as you mention the magic word “terrorist” - especially combined with “Islamic” - and many will automatically agree with any authoritarian measure you care to suggest.

The problem for the government is that they simply have no case for asking to be able to hold suspects for 42 days without charging them.
