Twitter is no longer for Twits: Examples

More people in political blogging are “trying out” Twitter, but defining the service is still like trying to nail jelly to a wall.

Two quick examples of how the service has been useful to me.

Ad Sales

On this blog I sold my first private advert by Twittering

“I wonder if X would like to buy and advert for Y”

X did, and it is now on sitting the front page.

Job for the Boy

Then yesterday I heard about a job in a think tank via a Twitter message - and I may well be applying. But (it’s a think tank) the job description is quite minimal, so needs a bit of “examination”.

And Twitter?

So, what is Twitter? Here’s my current potted definition:

An informal and frequent “back channel” to talk (and listen) to people you find interesting.

Most of the extras that you might think can be done with that service can be done; you can even proposition people if you want.
