Does Ken Livingstone deserve to stay Mayor?

Sunny at Pickled Politics:

That’s the question I’ve been grappling with for the past few weeks… maybe even months.

Are you mad?

Let me help, as I lived in London for more than 5 years during his term, including the time he tried to treble his precept in one jump:

Dame Shirley Porter would be a better candidate in my opinion.

Or George Galloway - and you know what I think of him.

Next question?

(Dave Cole will not agree - but he’s talking through one of his hats on this one! A tricorn seems appropriate.)

(Update: He’s apparently lent another hat to Garbo on this occasion).

  1. It’s not so much about whether he deserves another time (though, on balance I happen to think he does), it more to do with what that the alternatives are.

Much as I love Boris and his amusing ways, he has had little more to say than scrapping bendy buses. Ken has a vision for London and has really turned round transport in London. He is also willing to offer something for business in London and planning and development.

The problems with Ken that have been highlighted in the past have been about him as a person or the office of the Mayor itself and the assembly. What he has done in a practical sense has largely been very positive.

I feel a longer post coming on here to fully explain myself, as I anticipate the responses…

  2. This could be fun …

btw more than happy to post any articles on the WW.

imho disagreement is a part of any decent blog with different writers.

  3. Could do a similar run as to the one you doing at the moment on MPs pay/expenses/staff, maybe a bit nearer to the time of the election though…? I would be in for one.

Couldn’t agree more about the comment on healthy debate and decent blogs.

  4. I’ll ping an email out today - I was wondering about a short series for a couple of week’s time. See email.
