Blogrolling from the Left: Socialist Unity, Lenin’s Tomb

I’ve added two more group blogs from the Left to the Wardman Wire main blogroll. Not at all my politics (to put it mildly), but both are vigorous and established sites run by teams of contributors - and generate much debate.

Socialist Unity Blog

This blog is a “child” of the Socialist Unity Network.

From Wikipedia:

The Socialist Unity Network is a small network of the British left which is not affiliated with any single political party. It grew out of the Socialist Alliance in England, and was originally initiated by several non-aligned members of the SA executive in March 2004.

Members of the Network are supporters of Respect - The Unity Coalition and other left electoral initiatives including the Green Party. The main aspect of the network is its website which has regularly updated articles from a wide range of socialist perspectives on issues including (but not limited to) the possibilities of creating socialist unity.

Andy, who owns the blog, comments:

The main two contributors are myself and Louise, who is in the labour party. But we also get regular input from Tawiq Chahbourne and Martin Wicks.

We are currently getting 6000 unique visits per day.

We do reach some audiuences that other left blogs don’t. For example we get traffic from those camaigning for an English parliament, and others outside the usual left milieu.

A few posts that caught my eye:

Lenins’ Tomb

The Tomb is one of the UK’s oldest political blogs - founded in June 2003, and describes itself thus (excerpted):

Contributors: This site is run by ‘lenin’, and has several other undead contributors including ‘bat020′, ‘Meaders’, Mark Elf, China and ‘Bionoc’. Most but not all contributors are revolutionary socialists. Some have their own blogs, and their posts appear in the ‘Lenosphere’ column in the side-bar. We accept contributions from the Left, particularly on protests, strikes and other forms of struggle.

Content: Like most blogs, the content is erratic, syncopated by the intrusions of daily life, random interests, monomania, narcissism and booze.

Comments: The comments boxes are lightly moderated by about four or five people. I forget how many. I’m quite promiscuous with this kind of thing. Aside from one or two regular trolls, comments are generally not edited or deleted. In most cases, racist, sexist or homophobic comments are deleted.

Stuff about ‘lenin’: I’m from Northern Ireland, twenty eight years old, and can resist anything except temptation, flattery or money.
