A Study in Storefront Churches in Brooklyn, New York
Rudayday did a project to photograph “storefront” churches in New York back in 2003. This article features a few photos from the collection. There are 100 in total, all hosted here.
You can read about the background to the project.
In the UK these days, we are probably more familiar with “Terraced House Mosques” than storefront churches. Most congregations that would occupy these converted stores in Brooklyn would usually be renting a church premises on a weekday evening or a Sunday afternoon in the UK - or be meeting in a school or community hall. Many churches - especially in larger cities - have a Chinese, Korean, Philippino (or even Iranian, Eritrean and Indian) speaking congregation “borrowing” the building.
Here are a few sample photos. I have gone for typical photos, rather than my favourites.

Are these churches or prisons? I like the one without the gates, railings and shutters.
