Labour’s Illicit Donations

I’m listening to David Winnick on Radio 4 pleading for tighter regulations to prevent “this happening again”.

Just what is the point of tighter regulations, when the leadership of the party that formed those laws and regulations specifically run practices inside their own party that circumvent or ignore the law?

We saw it with Cash for Honours, we have seen other questionable practices around the edges (modernisation funding for Unions, Communications Allowances for MPs for a start). Now we have a further direct violation of Electoral Law.

Once is a mistake. More than twice looks corrupt - this is systematic, not incidental.

The start to the solution to this problem lies with admitting that there is a problem. That has not happened - again. And throwing mud at other parties will not fix it.

Look to your laurels, Gordon, or the plughole beckons.
