18 Doughty Street Archive to go on Blip TV

Mike Rouse is planning to upload the entire 18 Doughty Street Archive to blip.tv under an “attribution non-commercial sharealike” license. He explains it like this:

As 18 Doughty Street moves into its new phase it’s not quite clear what’s going to happen to the current archive of over 1,500 items. So, just to make sure you can always access them I am going to uploading every last item to blip.tv’s service. You can access our page here:

http://18doughtystreet.blip.tv/

Licence Terms

All of these items are subject to the Creative Commons licensing system, in particular they are released under the Attribution-NonCommerical-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic licence. That means you are free to share the videos, distribute or transmit them, and you are free to adapt the videos, but you must attribute “18 Doughty Street Talk TV” as the source of the video with a link back to either the Blip.tv show page or 18doughtystreet.com. You are also not allowed to use our videos for commercial purposes; that includes training or including them in any pay-per-view or subscription-based service.

Timescale

With over 1,500 videos it is going to take a number of weeks to upload, tag and describe each video so that you can search for them by guest name, topic, etc. I have no official resources for this, so it’s just me doing it in my spare time. Please bear with me.

Priorities

I am going to place a priority on the various one-to-one interviews, but if you have something you’re really desperate to see on the blip.tv channel just jot down a comment with the details and I’ll do my best.

Regardless of your political affiliation, that is an fantastic project - as there are all sorts of gems in there from across the political spectrum.

It will also make it all a lot easier to find than the existing website.

In my case it probably means that I have lost a columnist until Christmas, but that is a price I’m quite willing to pay for this one. I’ve also promised him dinner at Nobu or equivalent if he finishes it all.

It will also be a superb publicity initiative for the new setup, whatever that ends up as. Perhaps the most important thing is to make sure that there is a lot of time spent reflecting on the experience, and I hope something will be published. I might start a meme about it.
