If Scotland were independent … what about Shetland declaring UDI
What would Latex Salmond the Great Pretender do if the Shetland Isles declared UDI and took all their oil with them?
After all, the Faro Islands detached from Norway and remained as part of the Nordic Council 1814.
And Greenland obtained Home Rule in 1978, while “remaining a small Independent country in the EU”. Later, they left.
Population of Faro: 48,317.
Area of Faro: 1,399 square km.Population of Greenland: 57,100.
Area of Greenland: a lot, but mainly rather cold.Population of Shetland: 21,900.
Area of Shetland: 1,466 square km.
And the existing oil fields are shown on this map (via the Devil ):
It looks to me as if Shetland would get quite a lot of those, so The Shetlands on their own would be so much more “viable” without having to give all their oil income to “the rump Scotland“. I can already hear Latex making the other side of all the arguments he is currently using.

I,don’t live in Shetland, but if I did I would be asking, why should we share our oil wealth with the Scots. After all, what did they do to entitle them to it ? I guess the UK does offer some attractions being a serious world country, but Scotland with King Alex? better off on our own.
@iain: Mansfield has an Independent Mayor, an Independent Council, and Two Gold Medals.
I say Mansfield declare UDI and stand their own two feet. After all, Mansfield won more Gold medals than Turkey, as many as Denmark or Cuba and only one behind Canada, Poland and Brazil.
Thinking about it, give Michael Phelps a seat on the UN Security Council.
