Political Blogs on Topsites

20071105-blog-top-sites-screendump-wardman-wireThere’s a nice little gaggle of UK Political Blogs developing on Blog Top Sites. Blog Top Sites is a categorised directory that also publishes rankings and their version of traffic figures to listed blogs every couple of hours.

It is also the only direct traffic comparison using the same service for a number of UK Political Blogs I have found (*), and can be motivational for some people. By my estimation, the figures are something like 60-70% below the numbers I get from my server statistics, but are fairly consistent and so can be used for a reasonable comparison.

I don’t think that “league tables” are particularly useful except for motivation in a dry spell - so I’m not publishing a list of rankings. If you are interested in that, then pop over to Blog Top Sites and read the Politics section.

At the moment we have these UK (and one Irish) blogs in the Top 250 of the Political group (out of about 750 political blogs listed).

However, just because I’m an awkward sod - and don’t want to make it a competition:

Here are the blogs in alphabetical order:

There are a few others as well, but they are defunct or on hiatus.

And here are the rankings in numerical order:

8, 34, 81, 83, 85, 87, 104, 152, 164, 165, 166, 181, 213, 221 (at 5pm on Monday).

Note that these figures change during the day. In my experience a blog’s rank will start low in the morning (less traffic overnight) and peak somewhere around teatime.

Match the Pairs

So - there’s a “match the pairs” game if you need to waste some time. There’s a starter pair at the top left of this blog page.

Do stats matter?

Not absolutely - but we are doing political communication and campaigning so they mean something … and how many election agents are not interested in the number of leaflets you distribute in a weekend?

A bit of fun. But useful fun.

Why not join the party?

If you do sign up - or I have missed you, drop me a comment, and I’ll add you to the post.

For the record, it seems to ‘understate’ my stats vis-a-vis Sitemeter by about 70%, but otherwise is a reasonable metric.

It’s no surprise that Slugger is doing so well, either.
