Ken Livingstone the Village Idiot: AGAIN !! - 100 Most Influential people in London
I missed this one last week.
Iain has an interesting post about Ken Livingstone at the “The Evening Standard 1000 Most Influential People in London” (New Media Top 50) bash last week. The Evening Standard account is here .
According to Iain:
Boris and Ken were thrown together for the first time and we were treated to them both heckling Evening Standard editor Veronica Wadley during her speech. She said what a great City London is and Ken shouted out “and who do you think made it so?” Boris then joined in an shouted “not for much longer”. Much hilarity all round.
Was there not one person among the elite of London in so many fields who could not come up with a more appropriate reply, for example:
LONDONERS made London great Ken - not self-aggrandising tossers like you.
Every time Ken pulls a stunt like that it reminds me why I can’t stand the odious little man.
That Evening Standard New Media list
Having read about the top New Media influencers, I’d like to know what Alex Hilton (and possibly Iain Dale and Tim Montgomerie for that matter) are doing in that list while the likes of Pete Cashmore are left out?
All due respect to the people I mentioned before, they are just not in that league in the New Media niche.
For those people in the ostrich position, Pete Cashmore is based in London (Leytonstone, I think), and runs the 8th most-linked blog on the planet with 120,000 RSS subscribers. He is the man who tells you whether Facebook is better than Bebo or not. He gets roughly ten times as much traffic as Iain Dale. There are other obvious people missing, such as Hugh McCleod.
I’m wondering if this list needs a thorough fisking. I wonder why they have missed such obvious candidates.
I suspect it is because it was compiled by an Evening Standard Diary Editor on their day off and a 22-year old Commons Researcher over a Cappucino, with an awareness only of the “glitterati”.
Or to put it another way - whoever wrote this list has not got a bloody clue.

Ken aside, those Londoners VIPs really know how to throw a wankfest
