Unethical Protests in an Ethical Cause: Ruthie Zaftig Guest Post

Ruthie Zaftig has made an interesting Guest Post over at my humaniform.co.uk blog, about her reaction to an anti-abortion protest on her campus:

My first class of the day was at 9:30. As I walked to class, I passed a man handing out what appeared to be Christian tracts.

Walking to my second class, at 11:00 a.m., I realized that men in Jesus T-shirts were everywhere, holding 8-foot-tall posters with pictures of bloodied, decapitated fetuses, handing out tracts emblazoned with depictions of the stages of an abortion, standing on concrete planters and shouting at anyone who walked by.

I was furious. The disgusting, visceral, graphic images were everywhere I looked— with phrases like “America supports this Holocaust,” and “God Bless America.”

Even worse, they had children handing out tracts covered in pictures of dead and dying babies. Children! One I saw couldn’t have been any more than four years old.

I walked up to one of the men handing out tracts and told him I thought his tactics were disgusting. “You’re lucky I don’t have my son with me,” I said. “This is wrong. Take these posters down.”
