Daily Telegraph Blogs in Technorati Top 100. Guardian nowhere.

I note that the Daily Telegraph Blog Collective has made it to the Top 100 blogs list at number 57, with more than 5100 links. As far as I know, they have (wisely) not been trumpeting the fact from the rooftops.

Meanwhile, the Guardian Blog Anarchy is nowhere.

As far as I can tell, the top Guardian Blog is Brian Whitaker, with links from 222 blogs.

Ferrets in a sack on Comment is FreeNow, we all know that Comment is Free has far more links that the Telegraph Blogs can dream about at the moment - although, personally, I think of Comment is Free as a Forum Site for Ferrets in a Sack, rather than as a blog collection.

The difference is down to some quirk of how they are set up, or perhaps how they are registered in Technorati.

Or it could be a cunning plan.

Or perhaps not.

Probably not.

But what is my point? In the words of an old Skegness proverb:

If you make a speech standing on a sandcastle, you will end up sitting on your arse in a pool of water.

Be cynical about web statistics. Be very cynical. Especially when you are using them to prove your popularity.

No more technorati for a bit. Promise.

And have a nice weekend.

I think this might have something to do with The Guardian changing urls for one or two of their blogs recently, at least for Greenslade’s - this is incoming links for his old url, way up there:

Hmmmm. That’s still only linked from 322 different blogs on Technorati - which is only slightly more than me (308).

That probably accounts for some of the difference, but there’s something that is making them count the Telegraph as one and the Guardian as 129 (i.e., lots) of different sites.
