Blogs which cover Health and Safety Questions: Dealing with Bonkers Conkers

We have been covering the questions around “bonkers conkers” stories on this blog, here and here .

I put out a plea for some Health and Safety blogs to emerge. I have found a few options, but the coverage is currently woefully thin. Here are those I have found.

  • John’s Labour blog is a Trade Union blog which touches on some Health and Safety questions, among a wide range of content.
  • Working Safe is purely about Health and Safety, but is not updated that regularly, and is quite new. Roughly 30 posts since April. Promising.
  • Abbey health and Safety is a company which has a blog concerned with construction. They are IOSH members. Even never (5 postings), but promising.
  • Expert HR provides some coverage from a Personnel viewpoint (including an article about silly season stories).
  • HSE News is a news feed from the Health and Safety Executive. There is an RSS Feed.
  • You can create your own newswire for Bonkers Conkers stories at Technorati, or turn it into an RSS Feed.
  • And finally, the TUC has a blog (this is the Technorati page).

And … er … that’s it.

Apart from the IOSH President.

Sorry.

Wrapping Up

So - we need some Health and Safety Bloggers. Here are two suggestions:

A Health and Safety blogger like NHS Blog Doctor (perhaps less cynical) - about daily work.

A rebuttal blog focusing totally on rebutting Bonkers Conkers stories within the same news cycle with accurate information - i.e., before they grow legs. I think that means within 2 hours, and it should be run from the IOSH Press Office.

  2. On behalf of workingsafe.blogspot.com, many thanks for mentioning us.

We will try to work harder so we can move from “promising” to “must read” ; )

    Best Regards
    Juan

  3. Thanks for the comment.

  4. I agree, more H&S blogs and not about passing easy exams and posting example questions and answers - where are the free thinking safety pros gone? on the other hand if the HSE bring out an ACOP stating all safety pros should have a blog site, then there should be a few more!

  5. >where are the free thinking safety pros gone?

At least one of them has been writing articles for me.

I’m trying to wake some of other up.

By and large I think they have been somewhat cocooned.
