Experimenting with Adverts on the Wardman Wire

I’ve been able to devote a lot of time to the blog over the last several months as I have been recovering from a (very) small operation, but I’ll need to bring in at least a modicum of income to continue to do so. I would welcome views and comments about acceptable ways to make an income from a political blog.

I have a few opinions myself.

  • I will not use types of adverts that I find annoying on other blogs - such as popups and popunders (which are just what it says on the tin).
  • I will not use adverts that insert spurious “links” in editorial text that lead to advertiser websites.
  • I do not intend to use adverts inside the text of individual posts, since this interferes with the flow of reading - and I think that this is important on a blog.
  • I am willing to consider paid reviews - but if I do so the fact will be disclosed each time, and reviews will be of products or services I consider relevant to the subject area of the blog.

You will see some changes in layout as I experiment over the next few weeks.

I welcome comments, as to what you find useful, not useful, acceptable or not acceptable.

If you are a potential advertiser or sponsor please do get in touch - I have a page about advertising on the Wardman Wire.

  1. I’ll be interested to see what happens with this.

  2. That was quick - I only sorted out the comments 5 minutes ago.
Thanks for the visit. I will report at least qualitative information publically.

  3. good luck, mate.

forget AdSense - i have made a whopping $25 from my last 40,000 visitors.

  4. Tend to agree, but it fills the space while the other is coming along.

For poliblogs Text Links and sponsorships should be better - but this blog is only 4 months old !

I waiting for a response from a couple of other networks, such as Azoogle.

  5. btw adsense: Last year I did $100 from 30,000 visitors on another blog.

Very context dependent. But this blog also covers quite a lot of tech, so that may give me some higher value ads.

I wonder if I’ll get any for “buy a peerage”?

Good comments on defending the blog, btw.

  7. Cheers

  8. That post on DTB and NO was only written because Pommygranate complained about not being visited, so the comments above are interesting.

    Cheers
