It’s Got to be Gordon

I promised a meme to help make the Labour Leadership election process more interesting. Here we go.

[Update 13/6 PM] Welcome to visitors from Conservative Home. If you’d like to be tagged with this, drop in a comment – I have a couple of slots left. Eventually I’ll declare “open season” but I’ll let it run for some time first.

[Update 14/6 AM] I have created a separate article to hold the list of people who have linked back here].

You can track who is posting what on the “Got to be Gordon” Newsfeed on the RH sidebar. They are just starting to come through. Each links to a separate post. [/update]

It’s Got to Be Gordon

Now that there is not going to be an Election for the new leader of the Labour Party, I thought we should all give Gordon Brown some feedback, and help develop some new policies.

I would like this to be multi-partisan and multi-viewpoint, and to generate a raft of bouquets, brickbats, and brainstorm fodder for the new Prime Minister.

The Rules

Post the following:

* 2 things Gordon Brown should be proud of.
* 2 things he should apologise for.
* 2 things that he should do immediately when he becomes PM.
* 2 things he should do while he is PM.

Then:

* Publish your ideas on your blog .
* Tag/label your post “got to be gordon”.
* Link back to this post.
* Tag 8 more bloggers.
* If you like comment or trackback this post to link in.

Here’s Mine:

Gordon Brown should be proud of:

  • Virtual independence of the bank of England.
  • Preventing Tony Blair ever living in 10 Downing Street by swapping flats.

Gordon Brown should apologise for:

  • All the shenigans with small business taxation.
  • Manipulation of national accounts to hide borrowing off the balance sheet – e.g., by Private Finance Initiative.

Gordon Brown should immediately:

  • Recover the gold that has been used to stuff the mouths of our Doctors, and spend it on patients instead.
  • Increase defence spending to a level that matches the demands on our armed forces.

While he is PM, Gordon Brown should:

  • Transfer a *lot* more power to local authorities.
  • Let the House of Lords decide how it should best be reformed, since it does far higher quality thinking than the Commons.

Who I’m tagging:

(I get 2×8 because I’m starting it!).
