Secrets of Successful Blogging: Don’t Be Scared to Be Different

q-dialogue-iconThis is a quote from an interview done back in September 2005 by Darren Rowse of problogger.net with a Blogger known as “Manolo the Shoe Blogger” (who writes a blog about shoes!). The quote is so good, that I thought I would quote it here:

Do not be afraid to be different, in the fact, being different it is the advantage in the marketplace where there are fifty hundred new blogs on the topic you have chosen. Also, do not be afraid of the odd combinations of the topics, or of the peculiar view of the world, or the different way of approaching your subject as long as these things can be entertaining. Do this, and post faithfully everyday, and be generous with your links and with your readers, and your audience it will find you soon enough.

The idiosyncratic language, writing in the third person, and the eccentric personality are part of “the Manolo being different”.

[Edit Friday: A big welcome to all the visitors from Manolo's.

I've been baffled as to how to entertain fashionistas on a UK politics blog, however I have been doing some research, and I will be publishing a true account of Manolo's life story and biography later on today. Be sure to come back on Saturday morning EST - the story will be linked from here.

In the meantime, I have a some Long Lost Twins and Cartoon posts on here that you may enjoy. I also recently live blogged the Cutty Sark Fire in London.

Cheers - Matt.]
