How to Manage Changes in Your Blog Effectively without Flip-Flopping

I always treat changes I make to one of my blogs as a four step process. I apply these to each aspect of my blogging - whether creating a new blog or applying a new element to a redesign.

The most difficult thing is to leave a change alone to judge its effect.

Follow these steps in each aspect of the blog:

  1. Focus on it.

Think about how your change will fit in with everything else you have in place and going on.

  2. Think about it.

I do this over a period of time - hours, days or weeks - in the bath or in the car when driving.
  3. Do it.

Make the disturbance or interruption as short as possible for you readers. Warn them beforehand and tell them when you have finished.

  4. Leave it completely alone for long enough for a proper evaluation.

This is the most difficult but most important step. Tie yourself to a tree for two weeks if necessary.

That’s it for this tip!
