Rules of Thumb to Manage your Blog - Tricks with your MyBlogLog community
This is a series of late evening weekday Hints and Tips that I aim to post at around 10pm. I’ll keep going for as long as I have things to say.
Who is visiting my Blog
You have probably seen MyBlogLog communities - where you can see who has been visiting your blog. By pointing at or clicking on the icons you can go back to MyBlogLog and find out about the people who have been visiting you.
I did this on election night to find out what sort of people visited my blog at 3:00am on that day. See my article about Political Bloggers Portraits.

How many people are visiting my Blog?
If you watch how quickly icons move through the MyBlogLog community on a blog, you can quickly get an idea of how much traffic is on the blog.
The 2 screenshots on this post were taken from Problogger half an hour apart, and you can see that the A+ screenshot moved about 10 places in half an hour.
On the Wardman Wire, the icons take a lot longer to vanish.
And on Others’ Blogs too
Even better, you can judge the popularity and audience of others’ blogs in exactly the same way.
Caveat
MyBlogLog communities can have a short life on some blogs, for a couple of reasons:
- MyBlogLog sometimes suffer from Spam in its system.
- Sometimes blogger don’t like to make their audience that public, or even do not like to reveal which blogs they are visiting.
For example, Darren Rowse has now removed MyBlogLog from Problogger .
