Labour not quite meltdown, Tory not quite breakthrough

This is my summary as I see it at about 4:30am.

Minutiae of politics is not my speciality, but this is my feeling.

  • Labour have taken a real kicking, but have not quite gone over the edge.
  • Tories can claim gains everywhere, including in the North. Strengthened in Wales and Scotland, but they have not broken through. There are a couple of strange Tory results on the South Coast.
  • Lib Dems are really struggling in England, including a couple of spectacular losses. It will be interesting to see how much of their South West London stronghold survives.
  • In Wales, Labour have been in serious retreat. They may yet meltdown.
  • In Scotland, a decisive shift of vote from Labour to SNP. Conservatives have not broken through. Lib Dems have held their position.
  • Ed Davey is attempting to say that the Tories are only making gains where they are already strong. I rather think not.

Remarkably, up until 15 minutes ago I had not actually a blogger on TV. Have now seen Tim and Alex on the BBC.

  1. [...] To me it looks more even more like a kicking than it did at 4:30m this morning. [...]
