From the Blogosphere to the Beeb - rejected ballot papers: blogger story

z-gv-network-ms2126-800This is how a story went from a blog to the BBC election coverage - or at least my interpretation of it.

The spoilt papers figures were first mentioned as part of normal election coverage.

The story was picked up by the Norfolk Blogger at half past midnight.

I picked up the story via a comment on the coverage run by 18 Doughty Street, and blogged it myself an hour later at 1:20 GMT.

From there it went to Alex Hilton (also known as Recess Monkey) of Labour Home, via the online chat room at the Wardman Wire.

Alex was one of the bloggers on the BBC with Emily Maitliss, and I think mentioned the story on television at around 2.00 am.

The story then appeared on the BBC election website What is interesting is that the chain of tips covered both sides of the political spectrum.

That may not be the only route, and I’m certainly not claiming all the credit, but it was one of the routes to this story, and illustrates beautifully how the blogosphere sometimes works.
