Scottish voters are in the centipede position…
When the Scotsman needs to spend 600 words explaining the ballot form to the good people of Caledonia, it strikes me that the system is too complicated:
Voters should cast their regional vote by marking an X against the party or individual of their choice on the peach section of the ballot paper.
They cast their constituency vote by marking an X against the candidate of their choice on the lilac section of the ballot paper.
The council ballot paper is white. Voters should not use an X on this paper.
Instead, they should number the candidates in order of preference, starting with 1 against the candidate they would most like to see elected, then 2 against their next choice and so on…
Blah, Blah, Blah…
Or to summarise. Scottish voters are in the centipede position:
The centipede was happy quite
Until the frog in fun said …
pray which leg goes after which?
She worked her mind to such a pitch
She lay distracted in a ditch…
Considering how to run.
