Stuart Broad’s first World Cup Over
Today is the first time that the young Leicestershire Bowler Stuart Broad (just 21) has played in a World Cup.
In celebration of this, I captured the Test Match Special commentary of the over for your delectation.
It turned out to be 11 runs and a warning for running on the pitch in his first over. Ouch!
[Update 22/4/2007 : However, Stuart Broad hit the winning runs. This bodes well for the future for England. Perhaps.
I should also note that this is the end of a brilliant career for Brian Lara - the best West Indian batsman since Garfield Sobers. The match was worthy of him - unfortunately the West Indies lost on the 5th ball of the 49th over.]
International Cockup Council Footnote
The World Cup - organised in the West Indies by the International Cockup Council, was devoid of any Caribbean Culture until the final stages, due to Gestapo like security rules (copyright acknowledged - M Atherton) and control imposed to maximise profit.
