Reader Question: Better use of Archives

This is the other way round - a question for readers. Something I would like to know.

I have been looking for a resource to explain this statement that is sometimes used in the header of a webpage.

<link rel=’archives’ …. >

For an example visit Problogger and View the source of the home page.

Any suggestions?
