Moving the Furniture on the The Wardman Wire

I have been moving the furniture on the blog today. I hope that you didn’t get lost. I have had two aims:

  1. Make the blog easier to navigate - especially to help daily or occasional visitors to see quickly which new articles have been published recently.
  2. Facilitate discussion around posts.

To summarise the changes:

Added

  • When you make a comment on a post, you may now choose to be informed of replies by email.
  • A list of the most recent articles in the sidebar above the fold, so you can now see the titles of the 10 most recent articles without any need to scroll down the screen.

Changed

  • Moved the RSS Feed subscription to the top of the blog.
  • I’ve crunched the header drawing to take up about 15% less space vertically.

Removed

  • The Politics and Sport RSS feeds are no longer on the front page. These feeds will continue to be updated.
  • I have moved the various “site admin” links away from the top of the front page, as these offer no value to visitors.

Upcoming changes:

I am also planning to make some further changes. These are on the list:

  • Add the facility to receive the blog posts as email.
  • Move the “clutter” associated with a post - the date, categories etc. to the bottom of the post.

Please make any comments you have on these changes below.
